Form companies and file trademarks, from your own software or an AI agent.

You can use the REST API or the MCP server. They do the same things: every API endpoint is an MCP tool.

What you can do

  • Form a company. Prepare an LLC, corporation or nonprofit in any state, then send the owner a link to review and sign.
  • Price it. Read each state's fees, name endings and annual report, and quote a formation before anyone commits.
  • Follow an order. See what the owner still has to do, and the state file number once it's formed.
  • Check a trademark. Screen a name for refusal grounds and search USPTO records.
  • Find classes. Turn a plain description of a business into classes and goods and services wording.
  • Read a website. Pull the owner, address and what's sold from a site, with the quote behind each value.
  • Prepare a trademark application. Build it up as the owner answers, then send them a link to review and sign.
  • Follow a trademark filing. Read its status, see what the attorney asked for and add a specimen.

What the owner does

The owner signs every filing themselves, in their browser. An API call can't sign one. For a company, they sign the authorization that lets us file for them, add any remaining details and pay, all in their browser. Social Security numbers go only on their order page, never through the API.

For a trademark, the declaration is made under penalty of law, so software can't make it for someone. See Prepare an application.

Once they sign a trademark application, Neil ODonnell, Legal Scale LLP reviews it and files it with the USPTO as attorney of record. OpenFile isn't a law firm and doesn't give legal advice.

After it's filed

Owners run a company from their dashboard, not through the API. That's where they order filings like annual reports, amendments and dissolution, watch compliance dates and Monitor scans, see trademark status, keep documents and invite their team. An agent can explain these with plan_task and list_services, then send the owner there.
