Questions

LLC or corporation?

Most small businesses pick an LLC: less paperwork, and profits pass through to your personal return. Pick a corporation if you plan to raise venture money or issue stock to employees.

Which state should I form in?

Usually the state where you live and work. Forming in another state, like Wyoming, still means registering in your home state as a foreign company, so you pay both states.

What does it cost, all in?

Our Basic package is $0. You pay the state's filing fee, which runs from $35 to $520 for an LLC depending on the state. Pro ($199) adds your EIN and operating agreement.

What's a registered agent?

A person or company with an address in your state that accepts legal papers for your business during business hours. You can be your own if you live in the state, or hire a registered agent company.

How long does it take?

It depends on the state, usually a few weeks. Expedited filing takes it down to days: add it when you order, or pick Premium, which includes it.

Are you a law firm?

No. We prepare and file formation documents on your behalf and don't give legal or tax advice. For an unusual ownership setup or tax question, talk to a lawyer or accountant.
