Trademark for a clothing brand

Most clothing brands file in class 25. Your brand name gets the protection, whatever the logo or design on a shirt happens to be.

How you use the name matters

A name printed large across a shirt can get refused as decoration. The USPTO wants to see it working as a brand: on a neck label, a hang tag, or next to a way to buy online.

Name first, logo later

Filing the words in standard characters protects the name in any style. Many brands add a logo filing once it's settled.

Selling your own store

Clothing itself is class 25. If you also run a shop selling other brands, that's a separate service class, and an extra fee.

Questions

Can I file before I've sold anything?

Yes, on intent to use. You show real sales before it registers.
